There are no confirmed records about the origin of this grape but some documents dated back to 1517 mention some prestigious carts of ‘fresearum’ being traded.
In the late 80s of 1800, it appeared as one of Piemonte’s main grape varieties in the official vines’ register, written up by a committee led by Conte Giovanni di Rovasenda, the main authority in the field.
Freisa adapts easily to various types of soil and for this reason it is commonly found in every province in Piemonte.
